La Secretaría General del Sistema de la Integración Centroamericana (SG-SICA) y el Centro Regional para América Latina y el Caribe del Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD) organizaron la Feria de Conocimiento “Compromiso Centroamérica: un espacio para construir una región segura” que tuvo lugar en la Ciudad de Panamá del 25 al 29 de octubre de 2010.  Esta iniciativa se deriva del Plan de Apoyo a la Estrategia de Seguridad de Centroamérica y México que impulsan los países del SICA con el apoyo de la Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional  para el  Desarrollo (AECID).

Compromiso Centroamérica fue un espacio diseñado con un formato de Feria de Conocimiento, que es una herramienta ya utilizada por el PNUD para promover tres objetivos. Primero, para exhibir el conocimiento adquirido como resultado de diversas experiencias y destacar los logros alcanzados por parte de quienes las han impulsado. Segundo, para que interesados en los temas previstos puedan conocer los resultados de experiencias y, eventualmente, iniciar procesos de cooperación horizontal para intercambiar conocimiento. Y tercero, para encontrar y afianzar puntos comunes del trabajo que realizan distintos actores en los temas del  encuentro y crear o fortalecer redes.

June 23-25, Panama. The objective of this meeting was to consolidate the Community of Practice of citizen security, conflict prevention and democratic dialogue for Latin America and the Caribbean in order to strengthen UNDP's work in the region and to share the wealth of knowledge and experience through horizontal cooperation and interchange between and among Country Offices.

The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA ), the Organization of American States (OAS), the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched the Handbook of Democratic Dialogue in 2007. This handbook is the result of a joint initiative to provide decision-makers and practitioners with a practical guide on how to design, facilitate and implement dialogue processes. It combines conceptual and practical knowledge, while providing an overview of relevant tools and experiences.

With the financial support of CIDA, the Handbook has been translated into Spanish and French. You can download these pdf files it from the home page.
